Day 2 SUNDAY August 03
Delight in a day exploring
"Arches National Park" - a photographer's extravaganza. Charles
Kulander of National Geographic Traveler, April 2005 writes, "
IN SEARCH OF THE PERFECT ARCH: with
over 22,200 of its namesake spans, Arches National Park is a shutterbug's
paradise. ... Landscape Arch, whose 306-foot span is reputedly
the second longest
in the world, is a narrow ribbon of sandstone held up largely by a
suspension of disbelief." This evening, a meeting with your river
outfitter prepares you for your week's journey down John Wesley Powell's
Green River. For those still wanting more: a sunset hike into
Delicate Arch.
Reputedly Utah's most photographed arch, sunset is the best time to view
Utah's icon arch.

Day 3 MONDAY August 04
Clay Jenkinson writes,
"In 1860, the modern advancement of the industrial railroad delivered J. W.
Powell and his crew of nine to the staging point of America's last great
exploration," today, a modern day scenic flight over the explorers'
same river and canyons deliver you to Sand Wash where your five-day
river odyssey begins. Drifting past, white sandy beaches, and shady
cottonwood trees enchant you, but it will be the 60-easy rolling rapids
before week's end that entice you into your own inflatable kayak. Relax
around this evening's campfire as Clay Jenkinson takes you back to another
time. Evening campsite: Gold

Day 4 TUESDAY
August 05
Surrounded
by over a million acres of wilderness, the canyon plunges 10,000 feet into
Tavaputs Plateau. If you like, you can hike to several Fremont Indian
ruins a petroglyphs. John Wesley Powell's love of the wilderness lured
him here. No one had charted this country before. This evening
brings a special visit form Major John Wesley Powell. Now's your
chance to ask him what it was like to shove off into the unknown.
Evening campsite: Mile-long Sand Bar
