Day 5    THURSDAY  TBD
        Today you will visit Thomas Jefferson designed “Academical Village” at the University of Virginia, the architectural and academic heart of his community of scholars. The Rotunda at the University of Virginia is the focal point of the academic village modeled after the Pantheon in Rome. The buildings and landscapes are still being used much as Jefferson intended. A guided walking tour of the Rotunda and the Lawn will be presented for you by K. Edward Lay, the Cary D. Langhorne Professor Emeritus of Architecture at the University of Virginia. Next a visit to the University of Virginia’s Albert H. Small Declaration of Independence Collection. At age 33, Thomas Jefferson, already an accomplished writer, drafted this seminal document of American history. Morning presentations close with commentary by Clay S. Jenkinson and a chance to peruse some rare books and special manuscripts that Clay has hand selected from the University of Virginia’s Special Collections. The afternoon is all yours offering several options: Continue to explore the University, visit Charlottesville with a walking tour and shopping, return to Monticello or just relax at your hotel.  Dine tonight on French cuisine in downtown Charlottesville followed by Clay's special presentation: ”Jefferson and the West”.

Day 6   FRIDAY  September 25
       A big day of driving will take you to two of Thomas Jefferson’s favorite retreats: Poplar Forest and the Natural Bridge. En route enjoy the rolling hills and scenic autumn foliage of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. If time permits you’ll be able to take advantage of refreshing mountain air and scenery with a small hike among the trails. Then it’s back to Charlottesville to enjoy a fun and entertaining evening (salon style) as you dine on fine food and a hand-selected Clay Jenkinson topic designed for intrigue and great round table discussions.

Day 7    SATURDAY  September 26
     Your last day, but some of the best is yet to come. Your final leg winds you back to Washington DC, but a few stops still remain:  Montpelier, home to Thomas Jefferson’s special friends President James and Dolley Madison and last but not least, a lasting memory to be had at Jefferson's Memorial. Your quick week comes to a close with a chance to say goodbye to new friends, and our chance to offer special thanks to you with our traditional Farewell Dinner Party.
